2019 Annual Meeting Learning Objectives

Envisioning the Future of Research and Innovation

At the conclusion of the AAOMS Annual Meeting, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize emerging issues and trends in oral and maxillofacial surgery and be on the forefront of research and innovation.
  2. Apply knowledge and increase competencies by participating in didactic presentations, skill-building workshops and distinctive educational formats to support complex concepts in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
  3. Demonstrate for all members of the OMS team the various evidence-based approaches and treatments applicable in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and foster interprofessional collaboration in practice to improve patient outcomes.
  4. Network with peers and mentors to find support, guidance and leadership opportunities in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Educational Program

The general registration fee entitles attendees to participate in all spotlight sessions, clinical tracks, abstracts, breakout sessions and practice management sessions at no additional cost. Seats in these session rooms will be available to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis.

New for 2019! Day passes are no longer required for admission to practice management sessions. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ticketed Sessions

Select fees continue to apply to hands-on clinical courses, the preconference program and some social events. Tickets are required for admission to sessions and events that have additional fees. Tickets may be purchased through advance registration or onsite until the scheduled start of the course/event (based on availability).

Beyond the Basics Coding Workshop

The Beyond the Basics Coding Workshop is held in conjunction with the AAOMS Annual Meeting. Tickets are required. Registering for the coding workshop does not secure attendance at the Annual Meeting. Separate registration is required.

Meeting Facilities

The Keynote Address, Opening Ceremony, exhibition and most educational sessions will take place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, 415 Summer St., Boston, MA 02210.

The business sessions, Welcome Reception, selected sessions and social functions will take place at the headquarters hotel, Westin Boston Waterfront, 425 Summer St. in Boston.

A hands-on cadaver workshop will be held offsite at Boston Bioskills Lab. More information about transportation and course requirements will be provided to registered workshop attendees.

Exact event and session locations will be listed in the final program.

AAOMS has secured room blocks for attendees at the headquarters hotel and additional host hotels.

Letter of Invitation

If you require a letter of invitation for visa purposes, you may submit an online request.

Online Annual Meeting Evaluation and Continuing Education Credit Transcripts

AAOMS will collect educational session evaluations and provide CDE/CME credit transcripts using an internet-based system to give attendees greater control over their continuing education credit.

Attendees will need to reference their meeting badge ID number when logging in to the system.

Audiovisual Recording Sales

Select session recordings will be available for purchase onsite at a discounted rate exclusive to meeting attendees. More information will be available in September at AAOMS.org/Recordings.

Annual Meeting Photography

As a service to attendees, the AAOMS photographer will take photographs throughout the meeting. Photographs will be available online for viewing and ordering within a few weeks after the AAOMS Annual Meeting. At that time, attendees may access the photographer’s website through AAOMS.org. Photographing or videotaping AAOMS educational sessions and events by individual attendees is strictly prohibited.

Consent to Use Photographic Images and Recordings

Registration and attendance at, or participation in, AAOMS meetings and other activities constitutes an agreement by the registrant to AAOMS’s use and distribution (both now and in the future) of the registrant or attendee’s image or voice in photographs, electronic reproductions, video and audio recordings of such events and activities. Note: No individual or entity may record any portion of the meeting.

Attire

Boston’s average September temperature is 65° F. Business attire is appropriate for Annual Meeting sessions.

Children

Children are allowed in the Exhibit Hall at the Convention Center; however, they must wear a meeting badge and be accompanied by an adult. Meeting badges for children are available at no charge at the AAOMS Registration Center at Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Children are not allowed in any of the educational or business sessions.

Media at the AAOMS Annual Meeting

Credentialed media representatives are invited to attend the 101st American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) Annual Meeting, Scientific Sessions and Exhibition being held Sept. 16 to 21 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

At this premier educational experience for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, media can attend select sessions that focus on the latest research and innovations in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The meeting also will feature more than 200 exhibitors highlighting the latest technologies.

To attend the AAOMS Annual Meeting – including the Exhibit Hall – contact AAOMS Communications. Note: There are no registration fees for media to attend the meeting, but preregistration is required.

Allied Organization Event Space Request

To complete the event space request form, visit AAOMS.org/Space.

Space will be assigned in order of request receipt. Please be sure to complete all requested information. If you have an elaborate function that requires additional setup or dismantle time, note this on the request form in the comment section.
